Since I arrived in Kyiv I have been looking for postcards to send back home to Tyler and Sydney. I figured they would be at the market / corner store or even sold on street corners, we are after all in / near the City Center of the capital city. But no, no postcard to be found. I decided I would try one last place, the Post Office, before I gave up the idea all together, and sure enough there they were. I asked the teller if she spoke English and she said, "no" and then I asked if anyone (waving my hand around the room) spoke English and again she said, "no." OK, I can do this, just like the flower purchase. I said "Postcard" and she got up and walked over to where the postcards are kept - behind the teller stations. OK, so this wont be quite so personal a postcard but as long as I walk out with two decent looking ones and some stamps to get them back to the States, all would be good. After much pointing and thumbs up signs, I got what I needed and retreated back to the hotel.

So Tyler and Sydney, just in case these don't make it home, or don't arrive before we meet up in London - here's a picture of your postcards. Sorry everyone else, you'll need to read the blog for the "wish you were here" bit, I'm sure you'll understand after what I went through just to get these two.
You might be wondering what the blog post has to do with anything but I do love the song "Postcard from Paris" by The Band Perry. I bought my phone with me even though I can't use it here, I don't have it set for International use (or maybe I just don't know how to use it properly) but anyway, it has all the songs I listen to on it (including that one) so when I'm at the gym I have the songs and sometimes I put them on in my room - there is only so much CNBC Financial News one can watch on TV.
But I have noticed that the hotel and most restaurants play Western songs in English, but they are cover songs done by other artists and the tempo of the song is really, really distorted. I was sitting downstairs waiting for the guys to go to work the other day and this song came on that I knew I knew from somewhere. It took me a minute to figure out what the song was (have forgotten what it was now) but it is originally an up tempo song that had been slowed way, way down that it ended up being a completely different song. Can't say that I liked the remake cover, but I have noticed that almost everywhere we go it's songs in English that are being played. Interesting...
